1941 GRÖNOGRAAF - Stainless Steel
Description
Most chronographs snap back to zero. The 1941 Grönograaf takes a breath first.
Press the reset pusher and a centrifugal governor, the kind that paces a minute repeater's chime, spins into action on the dial with two solid gold weights. It slows the return so hammers and hands meet zero gently, each going back clockwise or anticlockwise depending on where it stopped. The 30-minute counter jumps a whole minute at a time.
It is the Grönefeld brothers' first chronograph, built the classical way: column wheel, lateral coupling and the hand-wound G-04 calibre of 408 parts, with 48 hours of reserve, or 30 with the chronograph running. Hours and minutes sit off-centre at 1 o'clock, on a steel dial with rhodium-plated sub-dials.
The 40 mm stainless steel case is the 1941, named after the year their father Sjef was born. Limited to 188 pieces.
