Every hour, the sphere on the left of this dial puts on a small show. It turns on three axes, changing direction as it goes, about one and a quarter turns in all, before settling on the next numeral.
Four conical gears on crossed axles drive it. The sphere is Grade 5 titanium in blue PVD with white luminous numerals, and the one-piece sapphire crystal rises in a dome to make room for it. On the right, a blue titanium hand sweeps the minutes and snaps back as the hour turns. The Sphere won the Innovation Prize at the GPHG.
The A80 is wound by hand, with 72 hours at 3 Hz. The steel case is 43 × 50.8 mm, 15.6 mm at the dome, water resistant to 10 ATM. Limited to 28 pieces, on a blue rubber strap.
