Purple sapphires are an unusual thing to put on a perpetual calendar, which is much of their charm. MB&F set 48 of them, baguette-cut, around the white gold bezel of the LM Perpetual: about 1.93 carats from Madagascar, each hand-set by STG Création in Geneva.
The hands are PVD-treated in purple to match, and they share the dial with a lot: day, date, month, a retrograde leap-year indicator and the power reserve, each on its own floating sub-dial, with the 14 mm balance suspended above them all.
Underneath runs Stephen McDonnell’s calibre for MB&F, whose mechanical processor builds every month up from a 28-day base in place of the traditional grand levier. Hand-wound, 72 hours of reserve, 41 jewels.
44 mm of 18-carat white gold, on hand-stitched alligator. Limited to 8 pieces.
