Description

The dial is rye straw, opened, flattened and laid by hand by the Portuguese artist Bernardo d’Orey until it no longer looks like straw at all.

His “Broken Ice” composition is built from 28 sections in layered shades of blue, each with its own shape, size and fibre direction. Because the fibres run different ways, each section takes the light differently and the dial changes as the wrist moves. Straw is a natural material, so no two dials are alike.

He works in short sessions of full concentration, because a piece of straw cannot be moved once it is down.

The polished steel case is 39 mm, with the automatic Sellita SW261-1 and around 38 hours of power reserve behind a black transparent caseback. On beige grained calf. Limited to 25 pieces.
