The piece

Inspired by a moment of quiet awe beneath the ocean’s surface, Manta Ray Resin for Desk captures the tension between order and chaos found in nature.

The piece reflects the artist’s first encounter with a school of manta rays—initially overwhelming, then profoundly calming. What appears at first glance to be a mass of falling forms gradually reveals itself as a network of individuals moving in harmony, each element connected, each motion deliberate.

Crafted as part of Lee Sang-yong’s Objetronics series, the work explores the evolving role of craft in modern life—where objects are no longer defined solely by function or decoration, but by their ability to enrich the spaces we inhabit. Sculptural yet grounded, the piece invites contemplation, offering presence rather than utility.

Designed to sit on a desk or surface, it becomes a quiet anchor within the everyday.
